A short reference to the vocabulary that recurs across our published material — service lines, programmes, options, and the shorthand our design counsellors use in the consulting room.

Not exhaustive. Terms settle into this page only after they have settled into everyday use at the atelier. Where a term is used more fully elsewhere on the site, the entry keeps to what is peculiar to our own workshop.

A

Adjustment Counsellor
An independent counsel, not on our staff. A client may seek one, on their own initiative, to discuss matters that arise with a partner, family, or workplace in the months and years following a Phenotype Renovation. Referrals are confidential; the counsellors do not report to us. Available in Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Ljubljana, and Milan.
Afferent Density
The count of sensory nerve endings per surface unit. Selectable in three bands — baseline, elevated, working — across the pawpad and vibrissae options. It sets how much of the world reaches the client through touch.
Anatomical Congruence Programme
A separate stream, opened in 2016, for clients who wish the finished body to be of a piece with itself across every system the template supports — not only those set out in the standard consultation packet. Requested individually. Also “Congruence.”

B

Barrel Cortex
The dedicated region of the somatosensory cortex that receives whisker input, mapped one cortical column per follicle. The destination of the neural projection restored by the Vibrissae Package.
Base Specification
The reference form of a Morphic template as re-architected in 2015. Every deluxe option is quoted against it.
Brussels Office
Our European client-services house.

C

Caudal Signalling Programme
The Hephaestus subgroup constituted 2021 to complete the tail — musculature, innervation, and the limbic couplings that let it speak. Its first commercial release was Tail Expressiveness.
Claw Colours
A palette of twenty-seven pigment shades and opacities for the four Morphic templates, edited into the claw-bed and inherited through the natural growth cycle. Released July 2026.
Client Privacy Programme
The framework governing what may and may not be said of a client's engagement with us. Names do not leave the room; aggregate reporting is our only public reference.
Compatible-Pair Framework
A structured engagement, published 2022, for two clients designed simultaneously as a matched pair. Joint confidentiality trust; consultations alternate between joint and separate sessions.

D

Delivery-Vector Library
The Hephaestus Group's continuous catalogue of somatic-delivery platforms — AAV serotypes, adenoviral, non-integrating lentiviral, self-amplifying nucleic acids — with characterisation notes dating from 1993. Source of the WHO Delivery Brief. Also the “characterisation library.”
Deluxe Option
Any element chosen beyond the base specification of a Morphic template. Quoted individually.
Design Consultation
The five-session sequence a Phenotype Renovations client works through with a Design Counsellor: intake and objectives; template review; somatic and cosmetic specification; confidential counsel (see Session Four); and readiness sign-off.
Design Counsellor
The senior clinician who conducts the design consultation.

G

Genetic Maintain™
Our oldest continuous line. Therapeutic gene therapy for identified conditions, offered under medical indication rather than elective design.
Genetic Select™
Preimplantation and pre-conception selection of specified traits, before conception.
Genotype Renovations™
Heritable modification, for clients who wish the design to persist into the next generation. The narrowest of the four lines in eligibility.
Gorkhi-Terelj Statement
The formal note of October 2016 that acknowledged an unmanaged public appearance by two clients at a resort within the national park. The public-appearance advisory that now accompanies every Phenotype completion is a consequence of that day.

H

Hephaestus Group
Our research and comparative-anatomy division. It predates the incorporation of Furnetics and remains the workshop behind every template. Its delivery-vector library dates from 1993.

I

Independent Ethics Board IEB
External oversight, established 2014. The Board reviews proposed template classes, material procedure changes, and case-by-case Tier III releases. Its declines are counted publicly; the tenth was recorded in 2024.
Intake Interview
The first meeting between a prospective client and Furnetics. The standard consultation packet is opened, objectives are heard, and admissibility is assessed.
Iris Chromatic Bands
Nine iris colours, independently selectable per eye. Released May 2024; the first palette expansion since the 2015 pipeline.

K

Kenya Wildlife Service Exchange
A reciprocal training arrangement in place since 2020. We provide reconstructive-surgery instruction to KWS field veterinarians; their veterinary service returns comparative wild-carnivore anatomy to the Hephaestus Group.

L

Laos 2029
The planned Vientiane research campus. A satellite of the Hephaestus Group, research only; no clinical delivery on-site.
Limbic-Affective Coupling
The neural pathway by which affect reaches the tail. In the Caudal Signalling Programme's mapping, it is what makes tail expression involuntary rather than performed.

M

Metabolic Adaptation
A deluxe endocrine and metabolic option, restructured in 2021 into three tiers. Tier III includes hypothalamic remodelling and requires IEB release per case.
Metabolic Programme
The Hephaestus subgroup that oversees endocrine and metabolic design across the four templates. It restructured Metabolic Adaptation into three tiers in 2021 and holds the case-by-case release authority for Tier III.
Morphic Series
The four commercial templates offered under Phenotype Renovations: Morphic Wolf, Morphic Otter, Morphic Vulpine, Morphic Feline. Each rests on decade-long comparative work.
Morphic X
Bespoke commissions outside the four templates. Case-by-case, with extended design consultation and IEB review.

N

Nairobi Office
Our African client-services house, opened 2019 in concert with review by the Kenya Medical Research Institute.

O

Ocular Programme
The Hephaestus subgroup, established 2021, that rebuilt the mammalian anterior eye from the neural-crest lineage upward. Its first commercial release was Iris Chromatic Bands.

P

Pawpad Textures
Eleven surface textures and three afferent-density bands, across the four templates. Introduced November 2023.
Phenotype Renovations™
Our flagship elective service. An eighteen-month course of care by which a client's body is renewed to a chosen form.
Pipeline Re-Architecture 2015
Dr. Ines Marchetti-Roux's rebuild of the phenotype pipeline, completed November 2015. It set the base specification for each Morphic template still in use today, retired the v1 chambers, and remains the anchor date most of our published notes date from.

S

Safety Register
The surveillance ledger in which every adverse event is logged against CTCAE thresholds. It feeds the annual safety report and the risk registers held by the Independent Ethics Board.
Seasonal-Cycle Calibration
A client-selectable modulation of the coat and metabolic seasonal cycle for the Wolf and Vulpine templates. Six intermediate settings between full expression and full suppression. Released February 2024.
Sensory Enhancement
A deluxe option modulating olfaction and vision independently of other packages.
Session Four
The fourth of the five design consultation sessions. Conducted under attorney–client privilege. Not recorded, not transcribed. Effective October 2019.
Structured Follow-Up
The five-year clinical surveillance that concludes every Renovation. It feeds the annual safety register.

T

Tail Expressiveness
A neuromuscular mapping added to the base specification in January 2025, allowing the tail to communicate affectively rather than serve balance alone. Nine microexpressions, coupled to limbic input.

U

Ulaanbaatar Campus
Fifteen Sükhbaatar Square. Our operational headquarters since 2010, and the site of clinical delivery, design consultation, and the Hephaestus Group's principal laboratories.

V

V1 Chamber
The first-generation dissolution-and-reconstruction chambers, in service from 1994 to 2015. Chamber No. I carried 411 procedures before its retirement; the v2 architecture succeeded them.
Vibrissae Package
A deluxe sensory option for the Feline and Otter templates, restoring the facial vibrissae as functional somatosensory organs — spatial, thermal, and airflow information, at a temporal fidelity comparable to the source species.
Vibrissal Somatosensation Programme
The Hephaestus subgroup, constituted 2019, that turned decorative facial vibrissae on the Feline and Otter templates into working sensory organs — follicle innervation projecting cortically at temporal fidelity comparable to the source species. Its first commercial release was the Vibrissae Package.
Volar Surface Programme
The Hephaestus subgroup, established 2020, responsible for palmar and plantar surfaces across the four templates. Its first commercial release was Pawpad Textures.

W

WHO Delivery Brief
The thirty-nine-page reference on comparative somatic-delivery vectors that we provided, unsolicited, to the WHO ACT-Accelerator in June 2020. Drawn from the Hephaestus Group's characterization library. It endorses no candidate.
