Morphic Equine preclinical programme opens

For immediate release

Furnetics Unlimited Ltd. today confirmed that the Hephaestus Group has been authorised to open a new preclinical programme, under the Phenotype Renovations™ service line, directed at the development of a Morphic Equine template. It is the first addition to the Morphic Series template roster since the pipeline was re-architected in 2015, and the first template the corporation has ever undertaken outside the Carnivora.

The programme has been in scoping review since the third quarter of 2024. Authorisation to proceed to preclinical work was granted by the Independent Ethics Board on the twenty-second of June, subject to the customary conditional-review terms; the first bench protocols opened at the Sükhbaatar campus the following week.

“The four Morphic templates presently offered — Wolf, Otter, Vulpine, and Feline — share a great deal more with one another, and with the human baseline, than any of them shares with an equid. The Equine template is the first Morphic in which the destination form is meaningfully larger than the origin form, meaningfully different in digestive architecture, and meaningfully removed from the plantigrade or digitigrade limb plans we have worked with to date. We expect the preclinical phase to be a long one. We intend to take the time it takes.”

— Dr. Ines Marchetti-Roux, Chief Scientific Officer and programme principal investigator

Four technical work-streams

The corporation identified four technical work-streams that will govern the programme's pace:

  • Skeletal scaling and unguligrade limb reconstruction. The programme will involve substantially greater alterations to load-bearing bone geometry than any Morphic template previously offered, together with the first distal-limb reconstruction to a single-digit weight-bearing plan.
  • Digestive re-architecture. Support for a herbivorous diet, including hindgut fermentation capacity. The Metabolic Adaptation option is expected to be included in the base package rather than offered as a deluxe upgrade.
  • Cranial restructuring. A scale of restructuring exceeding the current Preservation Resizing envelope, with a corresponding review of the technology's safety margins.
  • Cardiopulmonary and thermoregulatory adaptation. Sustained function under the increased body mass and surface area characteristic of the target form.

No commercial timeline

Dr. Kenji Arai, Chief Medical Officer, noted that no commercial timeline has been set, and that none should be inferred.

“Preclinical work in this line has historically run to a decade. It may run longer here. The Board's authorisation is to open the programme, not to promise its conclusion, and the corporation will announce nothing about client availability until the Independent Ethics Board is prepared to do so on its own terms.”

— Dr. Kenji Arai, Chief Medical Officer

The programme will be conducted at the Sükhbaatar campus and at the Hephaestus Group's redundant secondary laboratory. Standard Phenotype Renovations eligibility, safety-registry, and client-privacy terms will apply to any procedures that in time proceed from it; no expressions of client interest will be accepted until commercial availability is announced.

Enquiries from institutional partners and regulators may be directed to the Office of the General Counsel, 15 Sükhbaatar Square, Ulaanbaatar.
