Seasonal-cycle calibration released for canid templates
Furnetics Unlimited Ltd. today announced that the Hephaestus Group’s Circumannual Cycle Programme has closed final trials on an optional, client-selectable seasonal-cycle calibration for the two canid templates offered under the Phenotype Renovations™ service line. The calibration comprises eight settings — ranging from full congruent-species pattern, through six intermediate configurations, to fully suppressed — freely selectable at the point of design on the Morphic Wolf and Morphic Vulpine templates, and available on every newly-commissioned canid design from the first of February 2024.
Prior to the release, the two canid templates delivered the neuroendocrine architecture of the source clade on a single template-tied specification agreed at the 2015 pipeline re-architecture and unchanged since. That specification retained the source-species circumannual rhythm at its native amplitude and phase, on the Independent Ethics Board’s judgment of the day that a canid design without its native cycle was not the animal the client had asked the corporation to build. In the eight years since, the follow-up cohort has produced sufficient longitudinal data for the Programme to open the specification to individual selection without disturbing that judgment; the eight settings released today are the range within which the Board finds the client may reasonably choose, on the client’s informed election, and are not to be understood as a retreat from the earlier position.
The Circumannual Cycle Programme was constituted within the Hephaestus Group in 2020 as one of the small number of long-horizon research groups working on the neuroendocrine layer of the Morphic templates. Its brief has, from the outset, been the calibration of the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis on the Morphic Wolf and Morphic Vulpine templates against the client’s own physiology and residential circumstance. The Programme’s final structured-follow-up cohort was closed in August 2023; the eight settings released today are the ones the follow-up recorded as stable across the standard three-year window and that the Independent Ethics Board found supported by the evidence.
“The two canid templates carry the circumannual rhythm of their source clade because that rhythm is part of the animal the client has asked us to build. What we have not, until now, permitted the client to choose is the amplitude and the phase at which the rhythm expresses on the finished template. The eight settings the Programme releases today are the range within which the follow-up recorded no drift and within which the Board is content that a client may reasonably choose. The choice itself is the client’s, and always was; the corporation’s part is to ensure that the range within which it is exercised does not exceed what the follow-up will support.”
— Dr. Ines Marchetti-Roux, Chief Scientific Officer
What the calibration delivers
- Neuroendocrine encoding. The setting is encoded at the hypothalamic-pituitary level rather than deposited as a peripheral hormonal overlay; the calibration is retained through the ordinary endocrine turnover without recalibration and does not require scheduled maintenance beyond the standard structured follow-up.
- Independent selection across the two canid templates. The calibration is offered independently on the Morphic Wolf and Morphic Vulpine templates. Each template is separately validated; a client commissioning either may select any of the eight settings on its merits, and clients in cohabiting pairs are not required to hold the same setting.
- Reversible on the standard follow-up terms. Unlike the ordinary Morphic surface renovations, the calibration is reversible. A client who has taken the Full Congruent setting may, at any subsequent structured follow-up, ask that it be lowered; a client who has taken the Suppressed setting may, on the same terms, ask that it be restored. Re-calibration is offered without prejudice to the original design election.
- Not available on non-canid templates. The Morphic Feline and Morphic Otter templates carry different circumannual architectures on their source-clade references. The Programme has not closed on the question of their calibration and does not, by the present release, extend the option to them.
The eight settings
The settings are numbered, for the design-consultation brief, in descending order from full congruent-species expression to fully suppressed. Names are the corporation’s own and are used in the brief; they carry no external standing.
- Setting I — Full Congruent. The source-species pattern at its native amplitude and phase, on the source clade’s natural circumannual signal. The specification retained since 2015 and the setting that continues to apply where no calibration is elected at design.[1]
- Setting II — Congruent, Attenuated. The source-species pattern at reduced amplitude. Timing and phase-shape are preserved but the peak-to-trough differential is reduced by roughly one half.
- Setting III — Latitudinal Congruent. The source-species pattern re-timed to the client’s residential latitude rather than to the source clade’s natal range. Peak expression aligns with the client’s local seasonal signal and remains at native amplitude.
- Setting IV — Compressed Semi-Annual. The annual cycle compressed to a six-month periodicity, at moderately reduced amplitude. Selected by clients who prefer more frequent, briefer expression to the source clade’s single annual peak.
- Setting V — Single-Peak Muted. One peak per calendar year at markedly reduced amplitude. The mildest of the intermediate settings that retains the source clade’s single-annual pattern.
- Setting VI — Endocrine-Only. The endocrine substrate is retained but is decoupled from the behavioural and somatic expression axis. The client’s internal chemistry cycles at source-clade amplitude; the client’s outward experience of the cycle does not.
- Setting VII — Baseline. Cyclical expression compressed to the range of ordinary human circannual variation. Preferred by clients whose day-to-day life is not, in practice, conducted at the source clade’s rhythms.
- Setting VIII — Suppressed. No cyclical expression above the ordinary endocrine background. Selected by clients for whom the cycle is unwanted altogether. In the follow-up cohort, elected by roughly one client in seven.
“The calibration is the first Morphic release in which the corporation permits the client to move the neuroendocrine dial rather than the anatomical one, and it is offered with the acknowledgment that the dial is not one the client can, from the day of the procedure, meaningfully turn on their own. We ask that the setting elected at design be the setting the client wishes to hold on the eve of every seasonal peak for the balance of their life; and where the follow-up gives us reason to think a chosen setting is no longer serving the client, we will discuss re-calibration with them on the standard follow-up terms and without prejudice to the earlier choice.”

On cohabiting partners
Clients whose designs are commissioned with a cohabiting partner in view — whether the partner is themselves a Phenotype Renovations client, a Genotype Renovations™ client, or an unmodified individual — are asked to raise the fact at intake so that the design counsellor may discuss the interaction of the elected setting with the partner’s circumstance. The corporation offers no couple-mode calibration and does not co-ordinate settings across clients: the design consultation is conducted with the individual client and treats the individual client’s setting as the individual client’s choice. Where a prospective client’s elected setting differs from the setting their cohabiting partner has expressed a preference for, the design counsellor will note the disagreement, discuss with the client whether it has been raised outside the intake room, and, at the client’s discretion, provide a written summary of the eight settings that the client may share with their partner outside the consultation.
Existing clients
For clients who have already received a Morphic Wolf or Morphic Vulpine design under the pre-2024 specification, the corporation will make a calibration-election follow-up procedure available beginning in May 2024, on the corporation’s standard follow-up terms. Details will be sent by the Office of Client Services to affected clients directly over the winter; enquiries may be directed there in the interim. The pre-2024 specification — Setting I under the naming released today — remains fully supported for clients who wish to retain it and is not being retired.
No change to safety register terms
The seasonal-cycle calibration falls within the existing Phenotype Renovations safety register and does not open a new register class. Adverse-event surveillance across the eight settings will be reported alongside the parent template in the corporation’s annual safety disclosures.

- Seasonal-cycle expression may affect regular neurological and endocrine functioning when the cycle is at expression peak. While most clients report improved somatic congruence with the seasonal-cycle calibration at congruent-species settings, this feature may possibly be detrimental to relationships with cohabiting partners through heightened cyclical drive. ↩
